Repair & Advice
Motor needed to be replaced , so I decided to go ahead and freshen up the dryer (20 years old ). New rollers ,belt and tensioner , and just in case a new blower wheel if i damaged the old one? Damage was not even close to what i had to do! The old wheel would not come off.
had to brake it off the hub to get the motor out. So do yourself a favor order a new blower wheel for that new motor at the same time.

Problem
Dryer motor had bad bearings and squealed like a banshee. Tried oiling bearings and that worked for about 10 minutes. So ordered new motor. It was identical other than drive pulley (it may have worked but it had extra grooves so I replaced with old pulley). Pulley was difficult to hold to remove and I placed opposite end of motor in a vice between two pieces of wood and it broke loose. Same technique to install new pulley since I already was set up to do so.
Tools
Wrenches, vice, screwdriver, big socket for pulley ( I forger the size, but it was and 1" or 1 1/8" I believe. Actually, I believe the two pulleys used different size sockets, but that would be doable with an adjustable wrench if you were careful.
Repair & Advice
Motor springs that hold the motor in place are difficult to replace due to tension. It is doable with a little patience. Best I remember I hooked a wire loop over the curved end and used a screwdriver as a lever.

Problem
Squealing bearings from dryer drive motor.
Tools
Cordless nut driver, vice grips, hammer and woodblock
Repair & Advice
Very easy to swap out the motor on a Kenmore dryer- the only annoyance was backing the brittle plastic blower fan off of the threaded moter shaft. As expected, the fan cracked in the process and required glue to make in serviceable. In a perfect world I would have ordered a replacement fan blade with the motor order. The other learning was that disassembling the dryer fan enclosure allowed the removal of 10+ years of lint build up that you could never remove without removing the fan blade. The dryer works so much more efficiently now with better air flow.
