Repair & Advice
Condensation was forming on my Electrolux refrigerator mullion flipper. The first thing I thought was there must be a problem with the gasket seal on one of the doors. I tried identifying which door may be leaking by using a sheet of paper between the gaskets and mullion. If there was a gap, the paper should pull out easily. No luck on this method as the friction on both doors was the same. I decided to buy gasket for just one side first. Replaced the gasket without a problem. No luck. Was still getting condensation. I was beginning to think maybe cause was due to insulation in the mullion had deteriorated and allowing the cold thru especially since the other sides of the doors did not have the problem. Googled replacing how to replace the mullion and found a post where there was mention of a heater unit in the mullion of a Whirlpool refrigerator. I decided to then check if my Electrolux mullion also had a heater. Wha la! Upon removal it had wires going into the mullion too! This was my problem. Ordered a replacement and changed it out. Condensation gone! I took the old mullion apart and can see a broken wire as well as multiple insulation cracks in the other wires too. Because of the constant opening and closing of the doors, the wires where it flexes all the time had failed. One to know for the books. Just disappointed it took so long to find the problem and wasted $90 on a gasket that wasn't needed. Too bad this specific possible solution was not mentioned in when you Google "refrigerator condensation problem".
