Repair & Advice
Repair just involved removing screws on the dw door and releasing some tabs. The broken cover was fairly easy to remove. We had no instructions, but it wasn't difficult to figure out. Some of the tabs on the top edge of the old control panel cover were broken off, so only a few tabs were still holding it on, along with two brackets with screws in them underneath the cover were holding it on. After getting to broken cover off, we realized we needed to get the large door cover panel off in order to get the new control panel cover in place because the bottom edge fits under the lower door panel, so we fully opened the door removed the screws along the inside edge of the door, which released the large decorative door cover. We slid it up and off. Once the old cover was off, we proceeded to install the new control panel cover. BEFORE DISCARDING the old control panel cover, remove the 8 button covers from the button slots in it, making sure you keep them in order. You need to install these in the new cover over the appropriate holes. These hole covers have an alphabet letter (A thru G) on each one, on the back side. The button holes and button covers may look all the same size, .but they are not. It does make a difference which cover goes in which hole. The appropriate place for each button cover is also embossed with a letter in the new panel cover. Now just fit the tabs along the top edge of the new cover into the slots in the metal along the top of the door and snap the cover into place. REINTALLING THE FRONT DOOR PANEL: The hardest part here, is getting the bottom of the panel back on the door. There are two plastic things, one on each side, that fit into the panel at the bottom of the side edges and these plastic pieces then snap into the bottom of the door. There is a piece of rubber along the bottom edge of the door. That rubber piece DOES NOT fit inside the panel. Fit the panel back on the door, starting at the TOP edge, sliding it UNDER the control panel cover. Then, holding the door and front panel together with one hand, reach down and snap the plastic retainer into the catch at the bottom of the door. Repeat on the other side. Now, replace the screws around the edge of the door. The most difficult part is snapping the bottom of the door panel back into place. Almost necessary to have 2 persons for that.
