Problem
Squeaking noise when drum rotating
Tools
Torx head socket, Phillips screwdriver, long nose ( needle nose) vice grip, regular plier
Repair & Advice
Disconnect from power supply, remove power cord from dryer electric panel ( makes it much easier to remove rear panel) remove rear panel, remove top panel, loosen ( remove one torx screw, leave one in) dryer electric panel and move it up out of way; this has to be done to remove drum. I also measured the distance where the belt sits on the drum for correct re-install alignment. Remove drum drive belt from drive belt tensioner. Be careful with your fingers, as the drive belt tensioner is connected to spring that will pull it down to left. Remove drum. Drum is very light, but be careful with removal to not drop or bang it against anything as it will dent. To remove the snap rings holding the drum roller wheels in place, I used the needle nose vice grip. I locked the vice grip in place to the width of the open end of the snap rings then hit down on the vice grip. This moved the snap ring down enough to grab the end of the snap ring to pull it off. You have to contact both ends of the snap ring or it would just turn. This was the only way I came up with to remove the two snap rings as they are quite thick and I could not get any thing else wedged in to move them out as I did not want to damage the shaft the drum wheels revolve upon. Also, I would put a towel under the drum roller wheel before removing the snap rings as, if you hit the snap ring and it pops off, you don't want it to fly off to where you cannot reach or locate it. The towel would stop and contain it. Both of my snap rings just moved enough for me to grab the closed end with a plier and pull it off. Install the new wheels and reuse the snap rings.
Please note that when I did this procedure, I also replaced the drive belt and belt tensioner because the belt tensioner has a wheel that rotates with the drive belt and I do not want to take apart the dryer for another six years ( the age of my dryer). Being that once the drum is removed, you have access to everything.
When you install the drum back in the dryer, it is easier with another person to help steady it and hold it in place to install the rear screws. I'm sure one could do this themselves; however, being this was my first time, I did not want to risk damaging the drum.
If you are used to taking things apart and repairing them, this was not a difficult task. Also, I would advise to take pictures of everything with your phone or digital camera as you proceed, so if needed, you can refer back.
