Whirlpool Duet Washer F30 Error Code

Posted on July 14, 2014

Whirlpool Duet front loading washers use a motor on top of the dispenser assembly to switch the water in the dispenser between washing out the soap, bleach, and fabric softener compartments of the dispenser.  When the washer first starts, it tests to see if the dispenser is working correctly.  If it senses a problem, it won’t start the wash cycle and it will eventually come up with an F30 error code.  The F-30 error code means that there is a “dispenser system error”.

There are a few things that can cause the F30 error code to occur.  Here is what you will need to check:

  • First unplug the washer and remove the 3 mounting screws securing the top panel on the back side of the washer.  Slide the top panel backwards to remove.
  • Check the linkage going from the dispenser motor to the dispenser.  Make sure that the are no obstructions.
  • Check the wiring and electrical connections going from the dispenser motor and the main control board (CCU).
  • If the dispenser motor is turning but making clicking noises or continually turns, then the dispenser motor has probably failed and will need to be replaced.
  • If everything else checks out okay, then the central control unit (CCU) will need to be replaced.

Here is how to replace the W10352973 dispenser/detergent motor:

  • First unplug the washer before working on it
  • Now remove the top panel by removing the three T-20 torx screws and sliding the top panel towards the back of the washer to release it
  • Next remove the wire connectors to the dispenser motor.  Lift the locking tabs and pull them out to remove.  (Note:  when re-installing, the connector with the blue stripe on it goes on the top)
  • Remove the cam actuator from the motor shaft by gently prying up on it to unsnap it from the motor shaft.
  • Remove the mounting screw(s)
  • Re-install in the reverse order

I replaced the dispenser motor after replacing what cycle is it suppose to be on once u start running your cycles I see theirs four sections a 1,2,3,4 can u tell me what cycle each one goes to I have a whirlpool duet sport front loader

    • Ryan Posted on October 3, 2014

The 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the dispenser are to move the water between the different modes of detergent dispensing, bleach dispensing, fabric softener dispensing, and rinse dispensing. The manufacture does not give the information of which number goes with which mode for your washer. On the original Whirlpool Duet model washers the numbers went like this:
      1. Prewash Detergent Compartment
      2. Main Wash Detergent Compartment 2
      3. Bleach Compartment
      4. Fabric Softener Compartment

I have a Whirlpool Duet HT: Model wfw9200sqa12
I am also trying to figure out what position the indicator is suppose to be on when in the off mode. I moved it on the “I” setting in off mode, then when I ran a wash it cycled and ran the softener out first . Is there a standard off position that the motor/arm suppose to be in? a video or picture would help. Thanks!

        • Ryan Posted on October 7, 2014

I am not sure what position is should be in during the off position. Let us know what you find.

We removed the top of our Whirlpool Duet due to a F-30 error code. We did see some hard water build up and removed it. However, we watched as the “arm” went through its cycle and the clicking noise is coming from the elliptical piece (Part No. 8540395) colliding with the “arm” (Part No. 8540394). There is a small tab on top the elliptical piece that collides with the arm and causes the pointed end of the elliptical piece to pull up. The motor appears to be working. What now?

The two levers should not be interfering with each other like you described. Something may have come loose or one of the parts may be broken.

    • Gary Posted on July 16, 2018

This appears to be my problem. What’s the solution?

    • Felicia Posted on January 4, 2019

So did you get your washer fixed ? Mine is doing the same thing and I need a solution . If I can tell me how you fixed it that would be helpful

Does the soap dispenser have to have soap in it before it can work?

    • Ryan Posted on May 30, 2018

      No it does not.

  4. JL Posted on November 15, 2018

My F30 code has no clicking noise associated with it. However, it is making a buzzing noise. Any thoughts on this issue?

  5. Mike Posted on January 22, 2019

I put new dispenser actuator motor on machine and is still clicking and will not fill. ???????

    • Ryan Posted on January 22, 2019

Did you check on our website with the model number from your washer that you ordered the correct part number?

      • Miike Posted on March 7, 2019

        Yes it’s the right part

  6. Mike Posted on February 9, 2019

I have replaced the dispenser motor 2 times and also the mcu and machine will not fill and still gives a f30 code?? I changed the ccu but not new what’s mext????

  7. Bill Posted on April 4, 2019

F30 Code problem. Same as everyone above. Replaced it with new one. Same problem – No Fill, No Start.
NOTE: The actuator DOES operate/rotate like it should but then no water feed & machine stops after a few minutes.
Checked out continuity & cleaned filters on water valve & Replaced Pressure Control unit. Still Not working.
One Last Note: Machine does run when start with the Rinse/Clean cycle only???
    Appreciate any comments.
    Thanks
    Bill

I have the same issue, whirlpool duet ht, throws code F30… replaced the dispenser motor and still having the same problem, I thought the new part could have been bad but seeing this forum makes me not want to buy another one to get the same results. Can someone actually tell us how to really fix this issue? I can’t afford another washer.

  9. Doug Posted on February 21, 2020

I cannot find the part number for the wire and plastic. End. Mine is corroded and will not make contact with the terminals on the control board. I hate to buy a full harness for the washer for $100.00 and only need the 2- 6” harness with the blue wires

    • Ryan Posted on February 21, 2020

Whirlpool would not sell the pieces of the harness separately.

  10. Steve Posted on March 5, 2020

Yep, dispenser motor clicking and throws e-code described above. Swapped motor and cleaned everything. Issue remains. Wires are also corroded but I believe they are working , (at the moment anyhow). Trying another new motor but anticipate it not to work.
What is the cause if we have to replace the MCC board? Voltage issue? Starting to regret buying this thing.

    • Steven Posted on March 5, 2020

      Sorry, meant CCU board.

  11. kwame Posted on August 20, 2020

Im getting the same F30 code and the comments above are really creeping me out. Any helper out there? this is looking like a horror movie.

  12. Sandy Posted on September 26, 2020

Getting an F-30 code. Took the top off so I could watch. The arm starts to move but then binds up. Took the arm off and the motor ran fine making a full circle. Any suggestions?
