Samsung Drain Pump Relocation Kit

Posted on July 19, 2014

To improve quality Samsung has relocated the drain pump assembly from the bottom of the tub to the base of the washer on certain model numbers and production dates.  Previously these washers used part number DC97-16985A for the drain pump but this pump has been discontinued and replaced with one of the two service kits part # DC98-01877A or DC98-01877B depending on the model number and manufacture date of the washer.  First locate your model and serial number tag on the washing machine.  This tag is located on the top back console of the washer, and it will list the model number, serial number, and manufacture date. The manufacture date is listed in the format of YYYY.MM (ex: 2012.06).  Below is an example model and serial number tag to show where the manufacture date is located.

tag

If the washer was manufactured before 12/9/2012 and you have one of the qualifying models, then you will need to order the corresponding drain pump kit listed in the chart below.  Washers manufactured 12/10/2012 and later use part number PD00030925 for the drain pump and do not require the drain pump relocation kit.  Please not that the manufacture date is listed in the format of YYYY.MM (ex: 2012.06) on the tag of the washer and it will not show the day it was manufactured.  If the washer was manufactured in the month of December of 2012 you will need to check the washer to see if the pump is located on the bottom of the tub.  If the pump is located on the bottom of the tub you will need to order a drain pump relocation kit.  For installation instructions, please see the bottom of this post.

When the drain pump fails it can cause water to leak from the pump or it can cause the water not to drain out of the washing machine.

If you need to order one of the drain pump kits, you can click one of the links in the the above chart, or one of the links below. Parts Dr always has the lowest prices on OEM appliances parts.

Your directions are great I just need to know on the pump I have a black and a yellow wire on what side do they go I got a parallel and a vertical post which one gose where.

    • Ryan Posted on September 10, 2014

The two wires going to the pump motor can go in either position, they are interchangeable.

      • Dale Posted on September 15, 2014

Why is there a new wiring harness? Is the old one too short for the new location, the connector different, or the current rating is higher for the new pump?

        • Ryan Posted on September 22, 2014

I think the new harness is longer. Let me know what you find when you install the drain pump kit.

          • Dale Posted on September 23, 2014

It was the lenght. I just extened to old wires and it worked fine. Maybe not the best method for a novice, but it was a lot faster that redoing the entire harness. Thanks for the relay.

          • Dwayne Posted on September 26, 2014

Hey just got the kit in today and installed the new wiring harness and went in with no issues at all. Thanks

          • Ryan Posted on October 2, 2014

Great to hear! Thank you for sharing your feedback!

Can u pls confirm which replacement part I need….

        • Sherry Posted on October 24, 2014

Forgot to mention manufactor date is 2012 06

          • Ryan Posted on November 2, 2014

Your washing machine will need drain pump kit part # PD00004977.

    • JRabach Posted on March 22, 2016

We’ve had our washer 38 months. It’s been repaired by Samsung twice– once to reattach the pump in its original spot, and the second to relocate it. When it stopped last week, we discovered that AGAIN, the pump is flawed. In this case, one of the electrical connections failed, and was not obviously replaceable. We installed a full replacement pump/harness from PartsDr. What was not apparent to us is that the washer must be tilted on its front in order to access the bottom of the drum and the connections. Once we realized that, the repair was relatively simple to complete. And no, never buying Samsung appliances again.

  2. Bob Posted on September 22, 2014

I installed the replacement kit on my Samsung washer…seemed to go in pretty easy..probably had more problems getting the old one pulled out. We did a load of laundry after…and it doesn’t seem to be going through the cycle properly..and didn’t measure the size of the load Luke it did before. Meaning it filled the washer with water and the load a small load.
What might be the reason for the cycle not to.work properly(get stuck on wash icon for example). ? Could it be a defect…or possibly something I did when installing?

    • Ryan Posted on October 2, 2014

Is the washer draining out the water properly?

      • Bob Posted on October 3, 2014

Yes. The new installed pump works great. Now I am having issues with the actual machine motor…or agitator not working properly. I get the 3E error every time. I powered the machine off and then chose the spin option to drain the water and spin. That worked fine for a few loads..but still didn’t fix the wash cycle not working. Now the spun cycle isn’t working right. Is there a calibration or alignment or something that needs to be done on the machine after changing the harness and pump motor?

        • Ryan Posted on October 7, 2014

If you weren’t receiving this error code before installing the drain pump kit, then I would closely inspect all of the electrical connections on the wiring harness to make sure all of the connections are installed properly. You could also try temporarily installing the old wiring harness to try to narrow down if the new wiring harness is defective.

          • rennie Posted on January 27, 2015

Hi Ryan I have installed new drain pump on machine and tried it washing some clothes but the pump runs continously

          • Ryan Posted on February 9, 2015

The drain pump running continuously is usually caused by a failure of the main control board. If when the original drain pump failed any water got on the electrical connections it could have shorted and ruined the control board. The other thing to check is the pressure sensor and the hose going to the pressure sensor to make sure there are not any kinks in the hose. The pressure sensor is usually not very expensive, so we recommend to replace it at the same time even if it checks out okay.

          • Peter Posted on March 31, 2020

            Ryan-
What happens when the control board got shorted ?
Original drain pump was always running so I replaced it with a new one. It sound a lot better but there was some smoke coming out the control board. I didn’t replace the harness and cables , would that be the reason?

  3. Chris Pajak Posted on September 30, 2014

Just installed harness and assembly. Big problem. The new harness doesn’t have the yellow and black wires to connect to the pump. Now what?

    • Ryan Posted on October 2, 2014

Which part number did you order? What is the model number and manufacture date of your washer?

  4. Kristin Posted on October 2, 2014

We replaced the part with the kit. It worked perfectly for about a week and a half. Now the drain tube keeps coming off the tub side and again leaking water all over the floor. Did anyone else have this problem? We are using the screw clamp but it is not holding. Do I need another longer hose? Is anyone else having this same problem?? What can I do? Thanks in advance for any help!!!! I greatly appreciate it!!! I have the 420AA manufactures in 9/2012 and ordered and installed the right part. PLEASE HELP!!! So sick of cleaning up water and rehashing clothes

    • Ryan Posted on October 3, 2014

I have not heard of anyone else having this problem. If the screw clamp is tight enough and installed correctly the hose should not be able to slip off.

    • Scott Posted on December 8, 2015

Yes, I have just had this exact problem, repairman retrofitted it all, less than 6 months ago, now the hose comes off, I see it, think ok, nothing broken, I can put a hose back on,…. SOMEBODY HELP ME! What is with this crappy hose/ Tub connection?! Seems like a half an inch too short, nothing on the Tub end for it to really grasp on to, plus the Tub end is really short, and has no barbs to keep anything on. Kristin I feel for you. How is this possible?!? This should not be THAT complicated! Had a friend who is Very mechanically inclined have a try, also to no avail. Called Samsung and complained about this. What has anyone done. Anything I haven’t thought of??? Thanks

  5. Bob Posted on October 7, 2014

thanks for your response. I already did install the old harness and wired the new pump- which works perfectly.
I have went back in and checked all connections and did not see where any connection is loose. I will check again to be sure, but if you can let me know the exact connection I should checking that might narrow it down. I am asking because the water fill, spin and drain work perfectly. The tub doesn’t seem to agitate like it should…after filling. thank you for responding to my questions..this has got me stumped and the screws are getting worn out taking things apart multiple times.

  6. singh Posted on November 3, 2014

    hi
I have samsung washer model no. WA456DRHDWR/AA
    manufactured on 2012.10
which drain pump model should i order. please suggest
    thanks

  7. SAM Posted on November 4, 2014

    Hi
    My model no. Is WA456DRHDWR/AA
Mfd date is 2012.10 please suggest me which drain pump i need to order.
    Thanks

  8. mitch Posted on November 22, 2014

Everything went in smoothly but now that everything is in it’s proper place with the new harness the drain pump will not stop running when turned on. It’s watertight, it just continually drains and does not allow the tub to fill.

    • Ryan Posted on November 24, 2014

I think we already talked about this, but check the pressure sensor switch and pressure sensor switch hose to make sure there are not any kinks in the hose that could be throwing off the sensor. This sensor and hose is what the washer uses to determine the water level inside the washer. If that checks out okay then you could have a bad main control board that is constantly sending power to the drain pump.

      • Doug Posted on January 12, 2015

I have the same problem with the drain pump always turned on. Mitch did you solve your problem? I have a WA456DRHDSU/AA (2012.10) and installed the upgrade drain pump kit (DC98-01877A) because the old drain pump broke off. Relocated the pump and replaced the wiring harness. When I plug in the machine the pump runs for about 30 secs then shuts off. When I hit the power switch the pump starts running and does not stop. Checked the pressure sensor and hose (clear tube) but looks OK. I have installed a switch so we can turn the pump off and on when needed but not a long term solution. Everything else seems fine. Any ideas? Thanks.

        • Ryan Posted on January 14, 2015

If the washer fills up with the correct amount of water during the wash cycles, then the problem could be the main control board has a failure causing it to constantly send power to the drain pump.

          • Doug Posted on April 14, 2015

How can I get a new main control board? I called Samsung a few days before the 2yr warranty expired for the board, but then I just had the broken pump. With the new pump everything works fine except the drain pump is on all the time and I have installed a switch to turn it on/off manually during the cycles. Will Samsung provide a new board (now > 2yrs since purchase)? How much does it cost if they don’t come send it free. Is it easy to install? I have a WA456DRHDSU/AA (2012.10). See Jan.12/15 reply above for more details. Thanks.

    • Karl Posted on February 22, 2015

Ours is the same…tested everything (agitation, spins, etc) and it continually drains not allowing the tub to fill. It washed one load after replacing with pump kit and second load went haywire. Does not leak, just keeps pumping water out. You dump water in, it drains it out imm. How do you know if it is the pressure sensor switch or the main control board?

      • Ryan Posted on February 24, 2015

        Karl,

Check the same things that I mentioned to Mitch. The most common thing that we have seen that will cause this is if water got on the electrical part of the drain pump when it failed and it ruins the main control board causing it to stay on.

  9. Hareen Posted on November 22, 2014

    Hi Ryan
Can you please give me instructions in which location the new kit is installed and if I need to pre drill the holes on the washing machine housing??

    Appreciate your help

    Thank you

    • Ryan Posted on November 24, 2014

The pump is relocated to the base of the washer. The mounting holes are already there, you do not have to drill any holes.

  10. Hareen Posted on November 25, 2014

    Hi Ryan
Thanks for the email. I am unable to locate the holes where the new kit is supposed to go. Will you be able to send me photo of the mounting holes? I just dont want to mount it in the worng place and have problems later on. Thank you

    Hareen

  11. Angie Posted on November 27, 2014

    Hi,
I just received the kit and looking at the wiring harness I notice it has some extra wires near one of the grounds that mine does not have. Is this a multi purpose harness or did i order the wrong one? I have a WA400PJHDWR/AA Dated 2012.09. I ordered part PD00004957. Also,
I am having a hard time following the pictures, is there another way to view instructions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you
    Angie

    • Ryan Posted on November 27, 2014

According to your model number and manufacture date part # PD00004957 is the correct drain pump kit. The pictures that we have posted are just as the manufacture has provided them to us, they do not have any higher resolution version. If you need more help, post you questions on our repair forum along with some pictures and we can see if we can help.

  12. Luis Posted on November 28, 2014

I have model WA400PJHDWR/AA. The molding holding the pump broke causing the pump to come off and drain the water on the floor. I did a quick fix with tie raps to hold it in place. It worked for a load but then the wiring harness became frayed in second load and did not drain. I emptied the washer and spliced the wiring harness and secured it away from any rotating parts. Now the pump runs continuously and every time I power up it automatically tries to run a wash without me pressing anything for it to start. I am considering ordering the relocation kit but I’m thinking that even after I put it in it will likely give me the same start error. Any suggestions? It seems like it just needs to do a hard reset and forget whatever it was doing before. I’ve tried unplugging, lifting the lid 6 times in 12 seconds, putting in service mode. Nothing resets it. Ideas?

    • Ryan Posted on December 30, 2014

Did any water get on the pump/wiring or did the wiring short? If so it could have ruined the main control board causing it to constantly send power to the pump. The other thing to look for would be the pressure sensor, this is the part that senses the water level inside the tub of the washer. Make sure the small hose going to this part is not kinked or clogged.

      • Luis Posted on December 30, 2014

        Ryan,

Thanks for the reply. I couldn’t figure out the issue. The wires had not been we so no short but given the cost of repair I went ahead and bought a new washer on clearance for almost the same price. Thanks again. Great web-site!

  13. Chris Posted on December 18, 2014

My washer has been leaking on the floor. Model WA445DRHDWR/AA 2012.09

The repair man came out today and couldn’t figure it out. He thinks the water is splashing from the washer and out onto the floor. I have no clue what to do. I asked him about this repair and he said it wasn’t leaking from the drain… Should I get a second opinion? Does this qualify for the recall?

    • Ryan Posted on December 30, 2014

I am not sure what recall you are referring to, but you would need to contact the manufacture about any warranty or recall information. It is up to you if you trust the technicians diagnosis or not. If you don’t trust his information it might be worth while to get a second opinion.

  14. gustavo Posted on December 19, 2014

I have a WA422PRHDWR/AA Fabrication date 2012/11, according to the blog I ordered part PD00005330. Since it was made after 2012/9. I tried to install the part and It looks like I am missing the drain from the bottom of the washer to the drain. Did I order the right part?

    • Ryan Posted on December 30, 2014

You must have misread the information on our website. The drain pump you ordered is for washers manufacture 12/10/2012 and later. Since your washer was manufacture before this date you will need part number PD00004957.

  15. Bob Posted on December 30, 2014

I have installed the new harness and as I wrote in a past comment, my machine isn’t going through the entire wash cycle and giving me the error code 3E…meaning the motor isn’t running properly. Before replacing the wiring harness and installing the new pump, the machine worked perfectly. I checked all connections and don’t see where anything is loose or not connected. Could it be possible I installed the wrong harness for my model and year it was manufactured 9 does it sound like something else will need to be replaced? The model is WA456DRHDSU/A A and serial number Y6BP5AEC504981N

    • Chris Posted on January 1, 2015

Did you remove the rotor or stator? With power off hold down soil and doing and press power, if down right you should see 4 0’s. Turn the dial till you reach tst then press start and see if it agitates then press start again to quit sequence. Turn dial to spn and press start. If your wash plate spins then you know it’s not shifting or if it turns the basket during agitate, same thing. Go under and make sure you plugged that motor with the cable that connects to the shift rod or make sure it’s connected to the shift rod in the first place. And also make sure you didn’t reverse any inputs as some may be DC like the shift motor. Good luck. Btw the kit I put it was simple but I love the way the mounts are already ready for the set up, it’s like they changed their mind and said ” let’s reinvent tub instead”….

  16. Mark Posted on January 1, 2015

Just did this install this morning…your pics were a lifesaver!

  17. Adrienne Posted on January 9, 2015

Hello, my husband installed the new pump and everything fit correctly with the exception of tube connecting the basin to the pump, which we found to be approximately an inch too short. We finally got it stretched enough to get it attached, but when we ran a test load it came off. All the water in the basin went all over the floor, causing water damage to the ceiling below in our finished basement. We’ve confirmed we ordered the correct part for our washer, but the tube provided just isn’t long enough. Your customer service department is sending a replacement, but I’m still without a washer, and now may have a claim on my homeowners policy. Figured I’d serve as an warning for others.

    • Tory Posted on July 16, 2015

I have the exact same problem. Hose is too short and came off again causing a huge water mess. Did you find a solution?

  18. Barbara Little Posted on January 10, 2015

I am too old for this crap. my old washer lasted 15 years and is still in use somewhere else. I get this Samsung piece of crap and 2 years later I have to
replace the pump with not the same pump, but some new fandangled pump
that I had to pay 120. for. the directions are hard to see. its like you want us to
have problems so we can contact you. and not only that but for the 120 dollars
I didn’t even get the wire clam that I am suppose to use to hold the darn thing
on. I need to take this Samsung washer along with my genie garage door opener
right to the dump where they both belong

    • Ryan Posted on January 14, 2015

We only sell the parts, we are not the manufacture of the washer or the manufacture of the parts. Also, our price on the part is much less than $120.

  19. matt Posted on January 16, 2015

i bought and installed the pump, but now when the machine spins it makes a weird noise from the motor that spins.. it sounds like a click click click and keeps getting faster as the spin gets faster till it sounds like a loud clicking hum…also the clothes come out extremely wet . with a little water left in the bottom… i have been trying to figure this out for the past week….someone please help?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

    • Ryan Posted on January 17, 2015

If the washer did not make the noise before you installed the drain pump kit, then it would be a good idea to look everything over to make sure nothing is rubbing.

  20. Bob Posted on January 17, 2015

Can you please confirm what buttons I need to hold down. You wrote, hold down soil and doing and power. Hopefully it’s a typo. Thanks. Bob.

  21. Gil Posted on January 18, 2015

Those directions looks great! I also see people posting they work! Is their a bigger version of this image? It’s a little hard to see some sections of it and I’d hate to screw up my washer more than it already is with a broken pump.

    • Ryan Posted on January 19, 2015

Currently this is the only version of the instructions that Samsung is providing. If they release a higher resolution version of the pictures we will be sure to post them on this page.

  22. Emmanuel Posted on February 4, 2015

Ordered this part overnight, comes with everything you need. Really easy to install and a much better design than the previous. Replaced the wire harness by unplugging the old connections and adding the new ones(one by one). Took out the old drain motor, I got a bit stuck on where the new motor should be located. FYI it goes on the back left corner of the base, there are or should be threads and a location for it(as if they designed it this way during R&D) then the little grey tab connected to the motor also has a pre fabricated location(use the black screw with the black gasket to set it in place.

Put in a load of clothes with the back off to make sure there weren’t any leaks and I was good to go. Probably took me 1 hr.

  23. rennie Posted on February 9, 2015

    Hi Ryan,
Please can you advise were I would fond the pressure sensor and a drawing for replacing it. Thanks for assistance

  24. Jenna Posted on February 20, 2015

I thought I would be way over my head with this project – I am a girl with no experience with electrical or appliances. I placed the washer down on it’s front, removed the hosing (have a towel handy in case more water comes out) and finished disconnecting the wiring and connecting the new wiring. Connect the new wiring as you disconnect the old wiring. Don’t bother with the pictures provided by PartsDR. They really are too small to get much out of them. Remove the old drain pump housing. To install the new drain pump, I uprighted the washer. The new pump goes into pre-existing “holes” which are more like round slots, in the rear right of the machine frame (if you are working on it from the back. I screws right to the bottom corner of the machine frame. So easy.

Then I went back to connect this long white wire which splits off from the main wire by the top of the system. Use those little sticky things provided and run the wire down the left side of the machine (on the outside – stick the sticky things on the white of the machine). Place the wire in those and then I ran the wire under the bottom of the machine to the drain pump. I connected the yellow and black wires to the drain pump (I don’t think it matters which wire goes to which prong – they fit both prongs with out a problem). Put the cover on the drain pump housing – this can be a little tricky. Make sure the little hole on the cover is facing up. When looking at the cover you will see a “track” on the underside which can be matched to the top of the drain pump and slides around that. (Hope that makes sense). Then I put the back on and replaced the control panel, hoses, etc and took a chance that I wouldn’t blow the house up or the machine when I plugged it in and tested it out. Powered on. YES! Now the real test- running a small load. and YES!! success!!

    • Ryan Posted on February 24, 2015

Thanks for sharing your feedback and instructions!

  25. Karl K Posted on February 22, 2015

Took us all day to install this goofy pump redo (WA422) after the ridiculous! instructions. Parts Dr, you really ought to send the instructions with the parts you sell, so we all don’t have to guess(most are not repairmen) When we called Samstung (lol), they told us the nearest repair facility was 2 hours away and it would cost half of what the machine cost to get them to come out! They really need to fix these problems…this is a recall if I’ve ever seen one. Those photos stink from the manu. Drum roll…..one load washed, worked fine then second load -wah wah wah. The machine hums and powers on but now does not fill or anything. Samstung NEEDS to RECALL this NONWASHING MACHINE(piece of sh*t).This is a sad but very pretty machine on the outside, but like every import from you know where, plastic crap for guts. I guess they were warning us everytime the “national anthem” played at the end of a load, only now do I wish I had seen the writing on the wall. Yes I am venting. Any ideas? Now that we have installed a new part, is the brain rejecting it or what?

    • Ryan Posted on February 24, 2015

Samsung puts this kit together and they chose not to include an instruction sheet in the box. We are not able to change what the manufacture includes in the box from the factory, so we posted the manufactures instructions on our website. The photos are not very high resolution, but that is how Samsung has provided them. I responded to your repair question in your other post.

    Hi there!
i really enjoy this site! i have question about water pump. we had repair water pump about 3 weeks ago. we did couple of laundries everything was fine. Now water pump is running all the time. When i plug in washing machine pump starts for 20-30 sec without pressing any buttons. any ideas why is that happening?
we have samsung top loader. thanks!

The pressure sensor is usually not very expensive, so we recommend to replace it at the same time even if it checks out okay.

I just ordered the new assembly, my old pump was fine, but the housing was broken so I guess I had to order the whole thing anyway, right?

I also see in the directions a DC61-60063 clamp…do I have to order that separately?

BTW, your website is very easy to use, and you can only do so much with those direction Samsung gave you, wish everyone would stop complaining about that part.

I’ll follow up after I receive and (attempt to) install. I’m semi-handy at best…and if I do it and it works, then everyone should be able to.

    • Ryan Posted on March 16, 2015

Yes, that clamp should have been included with the kit. Thank you for recognizing that we didn’t make the instructions 🙂

  28. kevin Posted on April 6, 2015

So, my “washing” machine quit draining. I would like to order the pump and relocation kit, but my manufacture date is 12/12. The serial number is Y0IY5AECC01566W. MODEL WA422PRHDWR/AA. Which kit shall I order?

    • Ryan Posted on April 7, 2015

Models manufactured December of 2012 need to be checked since this is the month they changed designs. If your washer has the pump located on the bottom of the tub then you will need to order drain pump kit PD00004957 to relocate the pump to the bottom base. If your washer already has the pump located on the bottom base then order part number PD00005330 for the drain pump.

      • Kevin Posted on April 7, 2015

Thanks for the reply, it was mounted to the base. Pump should be here tomorrow. Quick easy fix! Thank you.

  29. Daniel Lewandowski Posted on April 10, 2015

Got it all installed (despite the horrid pictures and a couple missing steps), but the tube from the tub to the new pump seems to be too short. The tub doesn’t have a lip on it to keep the tube from just coming off during especially-wild cycles (which this machine spazzes out over anyways). If I manually shake the drum, it pops off. This is without water pressure pushing down on it. If I tighten the clamp any more, it just slides right down and off; I have the lip of the tube as far up onto that tubnub as it can go. We have a WA400PJHDWR/AA manufactured 12.08. Is there a longer drain hose I can order?
    These machines are curses.

    • Ryan Posted on April 13, 2015

The tub to pump hose only comes in one length. The manufacture does not offer a longer version of this hose.

    • Tory Posted on July 16, 2015

Having the same problem! Did you find a solution?

    • Scott Posted on December 8, 2015

They have to be kidding me with this short hose, short tub connection, smooth with no barbs or anything to keep the hose attached! What was the solution??

  30. Mike Posted on May 11, 2015

Can I keep the old wiring if still in tack?

    • Ryan Posted on May 13, 2015

The wiring harnesses are different lengths, so the new wiring harness should be installed at the same time as the new drain pump relocation kit.

  31. alan Posted on May 23, 2015

I bought new drain pump insalled it and still won’t turn on. If you ask me this is just a big scam from samsung. This should have been a recall. I tried running the pump in test mode and nothing happened. I know the pump is getting power becuase when i reach back by the wires on the pump. You can get a little shock while removing one and touching the prong. I think i was sold a pump that doesn’t work. If any body has any suggestions it would be appreciated.

    • Ryan Posted on May 24, 2015

You will need to do a voltage test at the pump to see if it is receiving approximately 120v from the main control board when the washer should be draining. Just because you are getting shocked when touching one of the wires does not mean the pump is receiving adequate power from the control board. If the pump motor is receiving proper power and it is not running then the motor is bad.

  32. stuart Posted on June 24, 2015

the check valve seems to be the first failure then after it blocks the drain hose ,wamo, pump explosion and failure….can i get just the relocation bracket?? I am throwing check valve away otherwise every 2 years pump failure . excess water in pipe wont cause exploding pump

    • Ryan Posted on July 9, 2015

No, the pump bracket is not available separately from the relocation kit.

  33. Tim Posted on July 16, 2015

Excellent support PartsDr!!! I ordered the parts kit on Sunday and received the kit on Wednesday. Install was straight forward and took a few hours. Just take your time and work the harness one connection at a time. Trickiest part was placing the screw (with rubber washer) in the pump foundation since it was located in the corner of the unit (tight fit). I did find a slightly better set of instructions with the service bulletin at the following location http://www.msaworld.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2014/07/ASC20131127001.pdf Shame on Samsung for selling a defective machine; my unit was manufactured in DEC 2012, the month they changed the design.

  34. Brandon Posted on July 23, 2015

Is the only difference between the 2 relocation kits the wiring harnesses? That being said then the 2 actual drain pumps wld be identical. I was reading one guys comments Abt just making extentions for the original wiring to new pump. So r drain pumps identical for both models?

    • Ryan Posted on August 3, 2015

Yes, the pumps are both the same. The only difference is the wiring harness included in the kit.

      • rodger Posted on August 24, 2015

The new kit w/new drain pump does not have the same exact drain pump as mentioned by Ryan above. Design is slightly different. Since everyone here seems to have the same problem with continuously running drain pump after relocation kit is installed, Is it possible to give sound advice on how to solve the mysterious main control board repair? Yes, since gallons of water spewed out of base drain (due to poorly engineered drain pump housing& it’s location), there is a great chance wires near the area got saturated. Hence main control board going wacky. How do we consumers fix this? Does PartsDr sell main control board or is it a new washer for Xma$?
        Thanks Rodger

        • Ryan Posted on September 17, 2015

Yes, we do sell the main control board for these washers.

  35. Chad Posted on July 27, 2015

I am noticing a foul smell from my washer. I noticed that their is some water left somewhere in the machine after the cycle. Is this a failure on the drain pump and I need to replace it. My washer was manufacture in 2013.01.

    Thank You

    • Ryan Posted on August 3, 2015

After the washer has drained there should be no visible water when looking inside the basket of the washer. It is normal for a small amount of water to sit in the bottom area of the washer, but this water is not visible when looking in the basket of the washer.

  36. Darin Posted on August 11, 2015

Installed new pump relocation kit PD00004977 (MFG# DC98-01877A). I did not use the new wire harness because the original wire harness was long enough to reach the new pump at its new location. After starting washer, the washer was filling and draining at the same time giving the NF error code. The washer wouldn’t fill because the pump was constantly running. Even when I turned the washer off, the pump was still running.

    • Ryan Posted on August 11, 2015

The drain pump running continuously is usually caused by a failure of the main control board. If when the original drain pump failed any water got on the electrical connections it could have shorted and ruined the control board. Since the pump is running even when the washer is turned off, that would be a good indication that the main control board is bad.

  37. Andyf80 Posted on August 14, 2015

I’m an appliance tech and have I’ve burned a control board on two different machines.

Something with the above part numbers do not appear to be correct.
    My situation is this:
    Model: WA456DRHDWR/AA
    Date: 2012.08
    Parts kit installed: DC98-01877A

Hooked up the new harness which is fairly straightforward. The plugs can only go in one spot. There is not mixing up plugs, however once I turned on the machine I got a ton of smoke and smell from the control board. Inspecting further, I find two small resistors that have burned on the board.

I’m at the point that I’m going to start turning down these jobs and send them back to the factory.

    What have I done wrong?
    Thanks!

    • Ryan Posted on September 17, 2015

I am not sure what is going on, I haven’t heard of anyone else having this problem.

  38. Pam Posted on August 19, 2015

We replaced the pump, now we are getting the temperature sensor problem code. Could this be related?

    • Ryan Posted on September 11, 2015

This error should not be related unless something on the new wiring harness was not connected properly.

  39. Danny Posted on September 4, 2015

Excellent! The installation took about an hour, I took my time made sure everything was to manufacturer’s specifications, and the washer appears to be working perfectly after two loads! I guess we were one of the lucky few that did not have a fried control board after the failure of the original pump housing!

It’s a shame Samsung thought so little of their customers that they published crappy low resolution pictures to illustrate how to install the new Part, but, everything made sense as long as it was taken slow and easy.

  40. Eddie Posted on September 10, 2015

Received the replacement kit super fast. Ordered on labor day & received it on Wednesday…thanks for that. Installation went pretty smooth. The new wire harness is intimidating at first sight when you open the box but it installs easily by just uninstalling the old & installing the new in steps & at the same time. The diagram on the site when printed is a lil hard to make out but you catch on quick as u go. My only issue was the with the 2 bolts that came with the new pump. They don’t seem to have enough thread to hold the pump in. After tightening them as much as they would go the pump wasn’t secure at all, it rocked as if they were barely held down. I was nervous due to how much the drum shakes that the pump would shake free & eventually break loose & leak. I noticed the old pump bolts had a lil more thread on them so I used 2 bolts from the old pump & that seemed to hold it in more securely. All seems well now…thanks for everything Parts Dr …Someone should start a class action lawsuit against Samsung. They clearly knew this was an issue because the new pumps connect to the bottom frame of the washer & were already manufactured to hold the pump so obviously they knew this was an issue.

  41. Jamey Posted on September 15, 2015

Hi and thanks for the instructions. Little hard to read but found pdf from samsung (same pics as yours) I could zoom in.
You may have answered but didnt see it. My install went fine but pump never kicks on. I can drain manually and read something on the web noting kinks and syphon with my drain hose but all good there. Do you know how much power the motor should be getting from the control board so I can test? I never hear it even kick on and get the “nd” error.

    • Ryan Posted on September 17, 2015

The drain pump should receive approx 120v from the main control board.

  42. Paul Posted on December 16, 2015

I just finished installing the relocation pump and new harness. (WA400PJHDWR/AA 2012 11.20)Once I figured out where it fit all went well. No leaks and pump runs fine. Problem: I Set the cycle and start machine. machine does its leveling thing fine. Time left reads fine. Machine starts to fill but time left does not change and washer continues to fill. I turn off machine and it stops filling. It drains fine (pump stops when drained) it spins fine. I figure must be a water level sensor. Where is this located?
    Thanks for your excellent service.

    • Ryan Posted on March 2, 2016

Check the water level sensor at the top of the washer, and also check the hose that connects from the sensor to the tub of the washer to make sure it does not have any restrictions or kinks in it.

  43. Adrienne Posted on March 3, 2016

Our solution was a jury-rigged extension to the tube. A trip to Home Depot for plumbing supplies including a PVC plumbing elbow gave the extra inch needed for a secure connection. It’s worked for us, hope the info helps you.

  44. Gene Posted on March 18, 2016

Thanks for great service. You emailed to let me know nda order was shipped and relocation kit was pretty much self explanatory. Not that happy with my Samsung wpa400 but that another story. Everything installed in about an hr and washer seems to be doing great! Thanks

  45. Don Posted on August 5, 2016

Just replaced pump kit and now the pump run as soon as I plug it in.

    • Ryan Posted on October 6, 2016

This is usually caused by a bad main control board.

  46. Jose DeSocarraz Posted on August 6, 2016

can anyone help me in locating information for parts on model #WA50K8600AW/A2? Its like this model doesnt exist. i purchased it from Lowes at a discounted price because it was damaged and they did not repair it. It appears that it got dropped and the bottom black base is broken and also the drain pump bracket.

  47. Rick Posted on August 9, 2016

    Hi,
I have a Samsung model WA456DRHDWR/AA manufactured 2012.10. The white plastic housing holding the pump under the drum accessible only by tipping the washer on it’s side is broken. Do I need the relocation kit or something else? I can email pictures of the broken part if that helps.

  48. Barry Posted on August 9, 2016

Installed harness and new pump. 3 cautions: 1) rear panel cover has internal clips on lower left and right corners that must be released after removing 6 screws; 2) do not apply excess torque to pump hold down screws. Only tighten until snug; 3) tub discharge port must be fully inserted into drain hose and attach screw clamp high enough to fully engage tub discharge port. Washer works fine after repair.

  49. Lisa Posted on August 23, 2016

Same problem here! Rigged the drain pump that broke off…now it will not stop draining, even though there is no water in it to drain. Main board problem?

    • Ryan Posted on October 6, 2016

      Most likely.

  50. Kevin Posted on October 1, 2016

On the pictures I’m following to install the replacement water pump I don’t see where it says which post to connect the yellow and black wires? Does it matter? Also if I create “pig tails” with appropriate conectors to extend the wiring harness instead of replacing the whole thing what’s the risk? I’m essentially creating a plug and play “extension”?

    • Ryan Posted on October 6, 2016

The two wires that connect to the pump can go in either location. It’s up to you if you want to extend the original harness instead of using the new wiring harness included in the kit.

  51. Sean Posted on November 2, 2016

Looks like i bought the wrong part. Before I saw this blog, I bought 4957 instead of 4977. What’s the difference? Any way I can make it work?

    • Ryan Posted on November 4, 2016

The two wiring harnesses are different. Some people cut and splice the longer wires from the new wiring harness that go to the pump instead of replacing the wiring harness. If you do that, that would get you up and running.

      • Sean Posted on November 6, 2016

I ended up just leaving off the new wiring harness since it wasn’t obvious why I even needed it. Install went smooth and it’s been working great.

  52. David Posted on June 10, 2019

I have a Samsung WA456DRHUDSU/AA manufactured in 11/2012. The pump is mounted on the drum.

Which part number do I need to I need. Does the pump need to be relocated to the washer housing from the drum?

    Thank you

  53. Brandon Posted on August 3, 2019

Yes I just bought and installed the relocation kit on my wa400 Samsung top load washer. It went pretty smoothly and now when I plug in the washer the pump turns on and starts pumping but the panel is off. Did I install something wrong or is there more then what I’m seeing?

    • Ryan Posted on August 7, 2019

It sounds like when the old pump went bad, it probably leaked and it shorted the main control board.

  54. Tony Posted on August 7, 2019

I received the pump kit for the Samsung washer. I didn’t use the included wiring harness as the original worked and reached fine. Mounted the pump to the base and connected the old wires. No problem so far, but I’m scared to walk away from it after its running. This should’ve been a recalled item!

  55. Jesus Posted on December 14, 2019

For all of you saying that the new supplied tub hose to drain pump is not long enough. You all have the washer laying on the floor to access the bottom. Once you bring it back to normal level and stand it up it will definitely reach. As for the extra wires I didn’t want to mess with all that, I know it is not the best option but I cut the new wires and just add it as an extension to the old black and yellow wire. The instructions are definitely blurry and parts Dr is not to blame, but everything worked out the way it should have and we are happy campers with our washer working again! Yayy!

  56. Adam Posted on January 18, 2020

I had one of the washers built before 12/2012, we’ve been using it almost every day for seven years, don’t know how it lasted till 2020 but it did. Then we had an unbalanced load making noise like we’ve never heard before, and the next load dumped water all over the floor. A little Googling and we were up to speed on this drain pump problem.

Found the relocation kit here for less than Amazon Prime, and the fast ground shipping was no joke—the part arrived a day earlier than the earliest delivery estimate. The detailed instructions we just what we needed (although like others I didn’t mess with installing the new wiring, the old wires reached just fine).

I’m just thrilled that we were able to actually diagnose and fix the problem ourselves, with the helpful information on this site. And get the right part delivered so quickly. Saved us a ton of money.

  57. Daniel Smyth Posted on September 19, 2020

I have a washer model number WA456DRHDSU/AA. The model numbers in the check all have “-00”, “-01”, “-02”, etc. How do I find the ending numbers for my washing machine model number and also which part would you recommend I use?

  58. Samuel Bachar Posted on January 6, 2021

The instructions are not clear and the pictures are of very poor quality. Clear photos would have made this super easy to follow. However, the assembly is VERY easy and it all made sense to me, once I started opening things up. The pump position on the base of the machine was made for this pump, and it all falls right into place. I pulled the old cable out, and as I was pulling the plugs out, I connected the new one, until the new cable was in place. Note that the plugs connect to the pump, needs to be routed off to the side, using the cable clip holders that come with the kit. The kit has EVERYTHING you’ll need.

  59. Trong Posted on June 23, 2021

Why we need a new wiring harness? Is the old one too short for the new location, the connector different, or the current rating is higher for the new pump?

    • Ryan Posted on June 23, 2021

      I believe it is length.
