Samsung Blinking Dash/Line Error Code List

Posted on July 16, 2011

Samsung refrigerators will start to blink a Dash or Line on the display when they there is an error code.  For example, if #12 in the diagram below was blinking then the computer thinks that there is a problem with the condenser fan motor.  Keep in mind that error codes are a starting point, and replacing the part related to the problem does not always fix the problem.  There can be a problem with the stated part, wiring, main PCB control board, and sometimes even an un-related part.  If you are unsure you should hire a technician to properly diagnose the problem.

(Click Diagram To Enlarge)

1: Ice maker sensor -Ice Maker sensor connector missing, contact failure, electric wire cut, short-circuit, Ice Maker sensor failure, and so on.  Indicates an error when the temperature sensed by Ice Maker sensor is higher than 150℉ or lower than –58℉.

2: Refrigerator Sensor – Refrigerator sensor connector missing; contact failure, electric wire cut, short- circuit, Refrigerator sensor itself failure; and so on. Indicate Error when the temperature sensed by Refrigerator sensor is higher than 150℉or lower than –58℉.

3: Refrigerator Defrost Sensor – Refrigerator evaporator internal defrosting sensor connector missing, contact failure, electric wire cut, short-circuit, sensor itself failure; and so on.  Indicate Error when the temperature sensed by Refrigerator defrosting sensor is higher than 150℉or lower than –58℉.

4: Refrigerator Fan Error – Refrigerator Fan motor operation failure, feedback signal line contact failed, electric wire cut, short- circuit, and so on.  Indicates an error if the F and G signals generated by the FAN-motor operation are not input.

5: Ice Maker Function Error – Ice-ejector and level failed three times or more

6:  CoolSelect Zone Sensor – CoolSelect ZoneTM sensor connector missing, contact failed, electric wire cut, short-circuit, CoolSelect ZoneTM sensor itself failed, and so on. Indicates an error when the temperature sensed by CoolSelect ZoneTM sensor is higher than 150℉or lower than –58℉.

7: Refrigerator Defrost Error – In the refrigerator room, if frost removal mode is finished due to limited time of 80 minutes. Error is displayed.

8: Exit-Sensor – Air sensor connector missing; contact failure, electric wire cut, short-circuit, open air sensor itself failure, and so on.  Indicates an Error when the temperature sensed by the open air sensor is higher than 150℉or lower than –58℉.

9: Freezer Sensor – Freezer sensor connector missing, contact failed, electric wire cut, short-circuit, Freezer Room sensor itself failure.  Indicate Error when the temperature sensed by Freezer sensor is higher than 150℉ or lower than –58℉.

10: Freezer Defrost Error – Freezer evaporator defrosting sensor connector missing, contact failed, electric wire cut, short- circuit, sensor itself failure, and so on.  Indicates an error when the temperature sensed by Freezer defrosting sensor is higher than 150℉or lower than –58℉.

11: Freezer Fan Error – Freezer Fan motor operation failure, feedback signal line contact failure, motor’s electric wire missing, and so on.  Indicate Error if the F and G signals generated by the FAN-motor operation are not input.

12: Condensor Fan Error  – Condenser Fan motor operation failure, feedback signal line contact failure, motor’s electric wire missing, and so on.  Indicates an error if the F and G signals generated by the FAN- motor operation are not input.

13: Freezer Defrost Error – In the freezer room, if frost removal mode is finished due to limited time of 70 minutes. Error is displayed.

Hi, we have another error on our fridge Samsung RSE8KPAS
and the self diag shows error not described in your list
There are [88 88] and your manual showing the description of 2nd and 4th EIGHTs, but our diag. shows the error of first EIGTH
    consider
    _ _ _ _
    I_II_I I_II_I
    I_II_I I_II_I

    and our error shows =>

    I
    only, please help us!!!

    • Ryan Posted on January 10, 2012

I can’t get your model number to pull up, could you double check it for me?

It is possible that your model uses a different error code system. I have also seen control board failures show error codes that don’t actually exist. You might also try contacting Samsung to see if they have any information that they can tell you about it.

      • Yerbol Posted on January 10, 2012

        Thank for your fast reply.
I checked it double time, the model number is the same.
The man that is fixing fridges, also said, didnt seen such frige before. He thinks, he need to change the computer possibly.
while working the PCB panel -some parts of the numbers shown dimly.

        • Ryan Posted on January 10, 2012

Yes it is very possible the PCB needs to be replaced. That is a very tough problem to diagnose.

          • Yerbol Posted on January 10, 2012

how do you think? PCB or processor that is on the back upper side?

          • Ryan Posted on January 10, 2012

Pretty hard to say without more information. If your repair technician knew what they were doing, then I would go with what they said to do.

          • Yerbol Posted on January 10, 2012

            Ok, Thank you very much!

  2. Craig Posted on January 30, 2012

    I’m also getting and error code of 88 – 88 flashing…
    Samsung frig is model RF26XAERS
    BOM Name RF26XAZRS/XAA

Any idea of what this code means?

    Thanks!

    • Yerbol Posted on January 31, 2012

we could not fix mine, but it is working now, just unfrosted them, and then again.
      Planning to buy new one.

    • cristian Posted on May 23, 2013

this is not an error code, the unit os in demo mode

      • Edith Posted on January 11, 2015

        Love you! Fixed

  3. Cat Posted on April 10, 2012

    model code: RSG257AARS/XAA
    HI!
My house lost power briefly… and the fridge now has error code #12 & #2. How Do I restore it to my original settings? I do not understand why it is showing these errors after a power failure.

    • Ryan Posted on April 10, 2012

It is possible that when the refrigerator lost power, that there was a power surge that damaged something on the refrigerator. To get rid of an error code, you must fix the problem with the refrigerator.

  4. mark Posted on May 2, 2012

We have a samsun RF265ABBP/XAA french door refrigerator. We bought it 3 years ago, we moved and went to plug it up and you hear the compressor kick on and the condensate fan is turning but the display shows errors 88 for the freezer with the very bottom horizontal segment blinking and 88 for the refrigerator with the very top horizontal segment blinking. Would there be any suggestion, we are without a refrigerator and can’t afford a repair bill right now.

  5. David Tripp Posted on August 13, 2012

We have a Samsung RF4287HA, we have an error code I E, can someone please tell me what this means, and how to correct it. Thanks.

    • Ryan Posted on August 13, 2012

I can’t find this error code anywhere. I would check in the owners manual, and possibly contact Samsung to see if they can tell you. Let us know what you find.

    • Martin Posted on August 21, 2012

Hi David, I unplug my Samsung RF4287HA today, and when I pluged it back I got error code I E…??
Did you find what was the cause?
and how to fix this issue?
      thanks

    • Valori Posted on May 30, 2014

Hold the “Energy Saver” and “Lighting” buttons together for 15 or more seconds. This should reset the code. You have to be sure to press the sensor buttons in the right place and hold long enough. Why Samsung can’t tell you that is beyond me.

      • Cherie87 Posted on July 18, 2014

        I love you!!

      • Rebecca Posted on August 13, 2014

        Thank you!!!!
        Fixed!!!

      • Stacey Posted on August 22, 2014

        Thanks Valori,
We had an issue with our ice maker a couple of years ago and had to have a service technician come out, very minor issue and he fixed the display by holding the Energy Saver and Lighting buttons!!! I could not for the life of me remember how he did it. Held them down together for the 15 seconds and viola problem solved, no waiting for the repair guy. Thanks for saving my bacon!!!

      • Lynette Posted on August 23, 2014

        Thank you Thank you Valori!
That works! Not that Samsung is any help on a Saturday night!
        You are a genius!

      • Rob Posted on October 11, 2014

Thank you sooo much! I had to flip some fuses and my fridge was working fine but kept flashing a 4 and an E….couldn’t find what to do anywhere.

      • Jim Posted on October 23, 2014

        Fixed mine too! Thank you!

      • Jennie Posted on November 27, 2014

        Wow THANK YOU!!!
Lost power and got that 1 E code was gob smacked at samsungs help line this am (call the repairman) I agree why can’t they make it as simple as you maybe you should start charging Samsung of the actual help you give their customers. Now I am feeling better that nothing for thanksgiving is going to be ruined.
        Thanks again
        Jen in tahuya

      • Mark Posted on November 29, 2014

Thanks so very much. Why they don’t is beyond me too.

      • Edith Valenzuela Posted on January 11, 2015

That fixed it holding energy and lighting bottons together thank u so much!

      • Erick Posted on March 17, 2015

How did we survive without the internet? Thank you sooooo much!

      • Andy Posted on March 24, 2015

Thanks for this !! I actually have a different model (RSH1DTPE), with different buttons. I took a stab at holding the Power Freeze and Vacation buttons together for 15 secs, and the reset happened. Everything back to normal now. Hopefully this reply will help someone with the same model as me.

        • Dylan Posted on April 2, 2015

I’ve got a RS7567 which after a power outage kept flashing S E . I called Samsung, “ooh you need a service call, we can send out an engineer anything from £60 to £120 if its out of warranty.” You could always try unplugging it for 15 minutes to reset it

I said ” it was working fine, then power went off and nothing has changed so why does it need an engineer ? surely is a reset or some thing. “No no we definitley need to send an engineer.”

so i spent a few hours searching the net and on here I found that sometimes you can reset by holding down 2 button so i have just tried all combinations (only because the site didn’t list my fridge)
I can confirm that on RS7567 if you hold down Power-freeze and Vacation for 10 seconds the panel resets….. woo hoooo

        • Barbara Posted on June 14, 2020

Thanks for this. Mine is also RSH but different model. I’ve just fixed mine by following your advice. 👍

      • sara Posted on April 17, 2015

You are amazing! My model required holding the super freeze and super cool buttons, but it worked! Thank you!

      • JSu Posted on May 17, 2015

        Valori- you rock. Thank you!!!

      • Dan Posted on July 25, 2015

Fixed mine as well. This was my last resort before I took a sledge hammer to the freaking thing.
        THANK YOU!!!!

        • Don Posted on August 21, 2015

Fixed my as well. Surprised Samsung wanted to send repair guy. You saved me a service call.

      • Troy Posted on February 18, 2016

Thanks for this advice it fixed my fridge. Thought I had to call the costly repair man. Thanks again

      • Scott Posted on August 22, 2016

Thanks the reset fix mine after a short power outage.

        • Nancy Posted on January 9, 2019

My mom has a samsung rf25hmedbsr/aa and everytime there is a power failure, the display flashes 13 c. I have been able to reset it in the past but I am not having any luck this time.

          • Laurie Posted on April 21, 2020

Nancy, were you able to get this fixed? I have tried unplugging fridge and also turning off fuse, and still having same problem. None of the buttons work.

      • TOBI Posted on July 14, 2017

I love you too! I don’t even know you! Now why can’t Samsung tell us to at least try that instead of making us think there’s a major problem & to find your own service person & probably have to pay them a lot of money. Thanks for the info!! 🙂

  6. Debra Dean Posted on August 15, 2012

I also have a Samsung RF4287HA and had a 2 second power outage and now have an error code I E just like David Tripps problem. How do I correct this problem. I’ve unplugged the refrigerator for 30 mins, simutaneously pressed the top two places on the display and nothing, just continually flashing l E.

    • David Posted on October 27, 2013

Most error codes, especially E 7, press energy saver button and lighting button (top left and top right respectively), at the same time. it will reset.

  7. Tom Wynn Posted on August 22, 2012

    Hello Sir,

I have a Samsung RB195ZASH with a non operational evaporator fan. Any help from the following code would be greatly appreciated.

    https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B4RpUTTLOZu1UGdDdE9pNkpDaE0

    Thanks in advance.
    Tom

    • Ryan Posted on August 22, 2012

I would read it as the code on the left: condenser fan error (fan behind the refrigerator). Code on the right: refrigerator defrost error.

  8. kerry Posted on September 7, 2012

just had a repair man here. my frig was flashing 88 and 89/backwards 9, on left and right respectively. he called repair number for repairmen and they had him press energy saver button and lighting button (top left and top right respectively), at the same time. it reset.

    • Ryan Posted on September 7, 2012

Did the code go away after it reset, or did the code come back?

    • Raquel Posted on September 24, 2013

Thank you for posting. That helped me. I hope it doesn’t come back.

    • ken Posted on May 12, 2014

My display said S and E after a power outage I pressed energy saver and lighting and its now fixed. Thank you

      • Mike L. Posted on May 25, 2014

Thank you for sharing this tip. Samsung phone support did not have an answer for this problem. When our refrigerator had the S E display, my wife called Samsung and I hit the internet. Your tip did the trick. Thanks again.

      • Mike Posted on June 4, 2014

Thank you so much! this worked.

    • Vilma Posted on September 8, 2014

This worked for me the only difeerence was that my buttons are labeled Power Freeze & Power Cool (top right and top left respectively) – thank you for the tip!

  9. Walt Posted on September 21, 2012

We have a RS2533SW. We had power outage, and we can’t get the fridge to come on. We pressed the ‘power freeze” and “power cool” buttons, and we got a code 3 error. Doesn’t make sense to us that a power outage should break something in the fridge. Can’t afford a service call right now. Any ideas?

    • Ryan Posted on September 21, 2012

Where there is a power outage, there is often voltage spikes that will kill electronics. The circuit boards in your refrigerator are not different than your computer, and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have it plugged into a surge protector. The error code on your refrigerator is a good starting point… if you need more repair help please post your question on our repair forum. http://forum.partsdr.com

    • ken Posted on May 12, 2014

Press energy saver and lighting together

    • Tonja Posted on March 2, 2016

    • Jerry Posted on November 16, 2012

what did you do to reset the 88 and 82 on display

      • ken Posted on May 12, 2014

Press energy save and lighting together

        • Joe Posted on July 27, 2017

We had a power blip and digital indicator was showing 88 88….. pressed together the “energy saver” and “Alarm (lighting)” buttons together for 5 second and it reset to normal indications!

I have a Samsung refrigerator I am working on the compressor won’t run and the computer board on the back of the fridge has a red led light that flashes four times then pauses and then it lights up for about five seconds and then flashes the same code again

  13. scott Posted on December 6, 2012

I have a Re267td refrigerator. The temp just started blinking?

    • Ryan Posted on December 6, 2012

A blinking temperature display usually indicates:

      A rising temperature
A failure of the cooling system or a failure in the defrost circuitry

  14. McGinty Posted on December 7, 2012

The blinking light simply means the fridge is restoring itself to its specified settings and is quite common after a power failure. However, should it still be blinking after three days there may be a defrosting problem and the fridge will have to be serviced. Check for frost build-up on the rear wall of the freezer section.

You can use a hairdryer on the frost to remove it but I cannot be held responsible for any damages you may incur.

  15. TOM Posted on December 9, 2012

Sandy Storm victim my brand new french door samsung is showing a 81 and 40 code. I had it going 3 days before the codes showed up. Any help. It still has the tags on it. RF4267HA model.

  16. Risb Posted on December 27, 2012

We have a Samsung RSE8JPAS American fridge freezer.
There are no fault codes displayed – however the evaporator in the fridge section builds up with ice – caused the fan blades to strike the ice and the fridge becomes noisy.
I see lots of similar problems posted on the net – however no solution.
    Please help.

had power outage now it is blinking 5 E and want go off. Do need to call repairman

    • Bill Posted on October 12, 2013

Press the lighting button and energy saver buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds. This will reset the control panel. If that doesn’t work u will most likely need a new main board. I just had mine replaced

    • ERNESTO Posted on November 24, 2013

I HAVE 5 E ON MY SAMSUNG CAN SANBODY TELL ME HOW TO RESET THANYOU…

    • Robert Posted on January 4, 2015

Had the same problem 5E blinking after a power outage. Pressed the lighting and energy saver buttons at the same time and the error code disappeared. Samsung had sent out a repairman the first time this happened and he replaced the defrost sensor. He also pulled the refrigerator out to far into the granite counter and dented the left side door. We are still waiting for them to replace the door

      • Dave Posted on January 25, 2015

Thanks for your solution. It worked! This may sound rhetorical, but I wonder why Samsung doesn’t make people aware of this reset procedure?

  19. bill beattie Posted on February 21, 2013

my digital display has a flashing dash after we turned power off for a repair to the electrics in our house, now the freezer cannot set.

    • Julie Posted on October 13, 2013

I have a Samsung RSH1DTPE and my Fridge started getting warmer than it should fluctuating between 12 and 16 degrees. This morning my Freezer temp started to flash -19 degrees and my fridge went up to 19 degrees. I turned the fridge off and when i turned it on again it was 2 flashing dashes. I then found your blog and pressed the 2 top buttons and my display is back but now my fridge is on 18 and freezer is is on 20, can anyone help?

  20. Richard Lee Posted on March 12, 2013

I just want to say thank you for your feedback. My refrigerator was acting up recently. Freezing everything in my refrigerator and it had 2 blinking lights on the front display. Samsung pointed me in the direction of a tech that wanted to charge me $150.00 just to come out and additional money for parts. It was crazy. I simply changed out the control panel. Refrigerator temp went back to normal but the display still blinked 2 lines after searching the end of the Internet for a solution I stumbled on you suggestion for the reset by pressing the 2 buttons on my display at the same time and abracadabra I can now adjust temp to my own settings.

I can’t tell you how thankful I am for your suggestion. You saved me huge money from these evil vampire techs and that cruel empire samsung. Thanks again.

    Richard Lee

    • tony Posted on May 26, 2013

Thank you so much for your posting. We have been talking to the Samsung Tech all morning w no help. But then I read your posting and held the top 2 buttons down for ~ 10 seconds and voila… the display is fixed. Thanks again!

      • Karen R Posted on May 30, 2013

Thank you so much for the posts about holding the two buttons. It really works [after a power failure].

            Thanks Again!!

  21. Karin Pearse Posted on April 29, 2013

Hi. I have a samsung fridge/freezer SRS691GDIS. The freezer has stopped working. The display is blinking -20 degrees. Ive tried to reset the temp to another degree. It stays there for a few seconds but then reverts back to the -20 degrees. I have also tried pressing the top 2 buttons as mentioned in your other blogs – but nothing happened. Have you any suggestions as to what may be wrong?

    • Richard Lee Posted on April 30, 2013

Hmmm. Did you try keeping pressing on the buttons for more than 5 seconds? I tried it first and noticed that just pressing the buttons on at the same time quickly didn’t do anything. Then I was told to press on them for longer than 5 seconds. When I did that I heard a long beep that reset the panel.

      • Karin Pearse Posted on April 30, 2013

You Sir are a ledgend! Had to press for about 10 seconds. I then came up with another error code. Ive turned the fridge off then on again… and it works, kind of.

When I set the fridge temp to 4 degrees and the freezer to -14 the settings stay displayed for 30 seconds then changes to 7 and 15 degrees. Would this just be the current temp of the fridge/freezer?

  22. Holli Posted on April 30, 2013

Thank-You, Thank-You, Thank-You, for posting about how to reset the control panel on my fridge. I had turned off the electric to replace some outlets. Then the fridge was blinking E 1 after I turned the electric back on. I pushed and held the two buttons until it reset. Thanks again.. 🙂

  23. Denise Hall Posted on May 15, 2013

We have removed the back panel from refrigerator to look for water that was leaking into crisper. Defrosted ice from coils, fan and drain. No cannot determine if fan is working and the frig temp now flashing. I reset temp to 38 and itgone from flashing 40 to flashing 39. Any ideas? Samsung B217ABPN.

  24. Michael Corp Posted on May 22, 2013

I just want to say thanks to everyone for posting their comments! A combination of these helped me save the cost of a repairman to come and rest my display panel for $150. I had either of 5 E or S E error code after a brief power outage.

All I had to do is press the two top buttons on the display for 10-15 seconds. These corresponded to Energy Saver and Lighting on my RF4287HARS. See the picture at the top of this page with thumbs pressing buttons. When you get the blinking error code, these buttons will not be visible, but pressing in that area works. Recommend trying this first for any blinking error code.

The sad thing is I am sure Samsung knows very well about this rest function and others. This reset function should be right in the user’s manual! I called them back today to cancel my service call and am waiting for a return call from them to file a complaint.

    • Charlie Sternberg Posted on June 29, 2013

Thanks so much. Finding this note helped me to solve the same problem without a costly repair visit!

      • Kenny Grant Posted on July 3, 2013

Thanks Michael, your post also saved me a costly repair visit!! You are right. All Samsung had to do was post this reset comment on there trouble shoot page. But, it’s all about money with some companies.

      • M Donovan Posted on September 29, 2013

You are definitely the man! Just fixed mine by holding on both the top buttons as you suggested for 10 seconds. Thanks!!!!!!!!

    • Dianne Koch Posted on July 23, 2013

You are the man, thanks so very much. I unplugged for 30 seconds, the pushed both spots and viola it is fixed. Thanks again. Writing this info in my manual for future reference. 😉

    • marilia Posted on March 13, 2014

Thank you so much from Spain… I had that 5 E error code after a brief power outage… thank you for the resetting tip… it save me some bucks on the mainteinance call…

  25. Alex B Posted on May 24, 2013

G’day everyone and thanks for all your help from the comments posted and the excellent diagram. I had put a large crockpot in the fridge last night to cool a bit to early so it overloaded the fridge and threw the whole thing into chaos.

Hi. I have a Samsung RH1. The freezer has completely defrosted. The temperature remained at -18 until I turned it all off & back on again and now it says 10 degrees (which is probably correct). The fridge is cooler than the freezer! (4 degrees). I’ve looked up the problem online, but most people mention that the freezer makes a noise, whereas mine doesn’t, so I’m not sure whether it’s the same problem. Please help!

I have a RS255BASB. When we received the freezer/fridge – I was told the icemaker did not work. My husband took the icemaker out and cut those wires. It was working great and then one day the fridge quit cooling. (I think my duaghter might have pressed the water and ice dispenser)… I unplugged and cleaned the coils. The freezer works great, but the fridge is barely cooling.. I do have flashing symbols.. to the left 98 to 88, and to the right 88 to 80.. (at least that is what it looks like to me) .. any suggestions on what I should do? This unit is approx 8 years old and I would love to use the fridge side again…

Hello I have a Samsung RF263AEPN. We had a power surge, and the display was blinking 88; 84/88. The back of the fridge was frozen solid, we defrosted it and cleaned up the fan. It was unplugged for over 2 hrs. and it is still blinking. Thanks

  31. Rick Posted on July 16, 2013

I have a RF26AERS and I had the following code after a power surge.
    88 88
I held the top left and top right button for about 30 seconds. Luckily it totally reset, best of luck to you all! I hate this fridge, it is the maintenance heavy fridge I have ever owned.

  32. Yao Rong Wang Posted on July 20, 2013

I have a Samsung RS267TDRS refrigerator. It is the most maintenance heavy refrigerator I ever had. You have to constantly watch the display panel. If you accidentally touch it, settings will be changed, and you have to find how to get it back. Most recently, we had a power outrage last night, and now it flashes 21 e. The freezer is now melting. Does any of you know what it means and how to repair it?

  33. Robert Posted on August 11, 2013

I had to change a electrical outlet near our Samsung RF267 refrigerator and turned the power off at the main power panel. After I replaced the defective electrical outlet, i turned the power back on. I too got the flashing 88-89 code. I thought the refrigerator was in the process of resetting itself. But after several hours, the flashing 88-89 codes continued.

I am so glad I found this blog because after hold down the Engery Saver and Lighting buttons for about 10 seconds, the computer reset and is working normally now.

Thank you to those who figured out this problem, you have saved me over $200 for a service call.

I have a Samsung Model #RF-4287HARS refrigerator. I noticed recently the crush ice icon on the display panel does not illuminate anymore. Also, the right temp display is missing a segment in the right digit. Some are dimmed a bit. Any ideas?

I have a samsung RS261MDWP and I flipped the whole home breaker on my box due to a tripped breaker that I couldn’t figure out (oops) found it anyway. Got a single flashing light on my panel for the freezer side 3rd from the bottom LED light. Fridge is staying cool, freezer also and water still comes out.. Any suggestions as a typical power outage reset doesn’t seem to do the trick and I’m too broke for a repair man! HELP please! ASAP! Thanks!

  36. beth b Posted on November 20, 2013

thank god I came across this. of course when I called Samsung they couldn’t suggest holding the top 2 buttons for 10 seconds, they’d rather schedule a service call and get more of my money! it worked! I had tried everything. I have an RS261M series side by side and after a power outage I got a blinking light on my display (mine has bars, not numbers) and none of the buttons on the display were functioning. so for those of you who have lost power, hold those top 2 buttons the full 10 seconds and wah-lah. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Samsung RS267LBSH side by side fridge has a error code #13 on the freezer side. Freezer started to thaw out and is reading 52 degrees. Do I need to replace a part (defrost heater, circuit board, etc). I unplugged and restarted but the fault returned and the freezer will not cool down. Thanks for any help!!

I have a Samsung frig and freezer (on bottom) RF268ABBP. I turned off a breaker for the frig. and when I turned the breaker back on the led read outs show a solid 88 and a backwards 6 and a 9 )flashing. any ideas? I’ve called tech support, unplugged and plugged back in, and the 10 second reset trick. Ice dispensing still works, but nothing else. thanks for any tips.
Tech support suggested a service call.

  39. Kathy Posted on February 10, 2014

My 2 month old Samsung model RS265TDBP has a “OF” code that came on around 1p yesterday. My replace filter button just highlighted too so I didn’t think too much of it and thought it would reset once I got the filter changed out. I woke up to water on my floor and my freezer and fridge warm. What does this code mean? After some internet searching we found a fix (hold the freezer and lights buttons down for 3 seconds) and that powered up the unit again but all the food has to be thrown away. No explanation what this code is, only how to reset it. Any ideas what this code means? Should a service tech be called in to troubleshoot even though it’s been reset?

Hello, we have a Samsung RF268ABBP French door refrigerator. This afternoon, it suddenly stopped working, interior lights out, not cooling or freezing. There is *nothing* on the display panel (a fact I had to repeatedly state to the Samsung tech on chat), but only two bright white lights blinking underneath the panel, near where the ice/water comes out. We’ve tried unplugging it for a few minutes, then plugging back in, to no avail.

Any suggestions are welcome! Thank you!

We have a Samsung side by side that appears to be working fine except it won’t drop ice – it is still making ice. The display panel is flashing what looks like codes 8E and 26E. Does anyone know if there is there something we can try before calling repair service?

    Thanks!

  42. Bin Posted on April 13, 2014

I have been having trouble for a few days. First Fridge side will not cool and then feezer stopped. Here is what I did. Called Samsung many times. They Suggested service call.

Put off the breaker from the main panel. And then unplugged the refrigerator. Waited for about 30 minutes. Then put on the fridge breaker. Then plugged back the unit. Got the flashing Error Code 5 E. About 2 hours. Then I pressed the lighting button and the Energy Saver button (on my unit the name of the button is Vacation) together for about 10 – 15 seconds. With this the display came back.

I am watching the unit for the last 30 minutes. Looks like it is cooling. I am hopeful. thanks and best luck every body.

I’m having problems with my Samsung RSG257AARS. We had to reset it twice due to a power outage at our house.. We put our settings at the recommended degrees (freezer -4 and fridge 34) but it won’t cool correctly even by pushing the “power freeze”.. The freezer and fridge displays higher degrees….

  46. Cplat Posted on July 17, 2014

I have a RF265ABWP the freezer works fine, but the refrigerator doesn’t seem to hold the 38 degrees. I’m thinking it is a defrost sensor problem. Any ideas? How do you reset this unit? Thanks for all of your help.

I have a Samsung RF267AARS and when we were moving the wires caught and pulled, we have since reconnected them and checked each wire to make sure they work from front top to mother board. The display is showing PC ER so we held the top buttons for 8 seconds, tried it with the doors open and it will flash 08 88 and beep but then goes back to PC ER. is there anything else we can do? Or should we order a new door?….

Just got back from holiday to see my fridge freezer (RSG5UCRS) with 88 89 (with the 9 backwards and flashing). I’ve tried pressing power freeze and lighting at the same time and I’ve tried unplugging for 10 minutes to no avail. Samsung have told me I need to get a service engineer out, but I’m worried it will be costly. Does anyone have any advice? It’s only 18 months old!

My Samsung refrig. model RF 266AEBP ice maker button on the display panel is going off and on and making ice without anyone programming it. Display panel buttons not working at all. Lights are still on everything is normal but you cannot turn the icemaker off. Please someone help me. Samsung told me that it cannot turn off and on by itself but it does and the chiming is getting on my nerve.

hi. i have model RSH1DTPE. fridge light blinked, then temp gone up to 16 degrees. please help.

  52. Blake Posted on December 22, 2014

I just replaced the pcb in our 263 series fridge I get the flashing error messages 13 and 5 which are due to the fact that the icemaker came lose and the drawer cut a cpl of the wires so I just disconnected the ice maker and removed it completely for now. It does seem to be running now but when I hold the power freeze and cool buttons to put it into the mode to set the temps I get an alarm on left display it shows op and right say ER the only way I can get the alarm to stop is by unplugging it and plugging it back in. But it will do it every time I try to set the temp.

  53. james kinser Posted on January 1, 2015

repaced control in front of frig. now has op er error on display. pushed saver & alarm button for 8 sec. still there

  58. Becky Posted on May 15, 2015

Hello. We just returned home from vacation. Our Samsung refrigerator was unplugged while we were away. We now have a #12 error code, which from your diagram, should mean the condenser fan motor. Should I assume that the fan is dead or could it be a wire? Any easy way for us to figure out the problem without a service call?

    • Ryan Posted on May 18, 2015

The condenser fan motor is the cooling fan behind the back panel on the rear of the refrigerator. An error code does not mean that a part is bad, but it is a good starting point to diagnose your problem. You will want to check to see if the fan motor is running, and if it isn’t then the fan motor could be bad, the control board that supplies power to the fan motor could be bad, or you could have a bad wire or wiring connection.

  59. MITCH Posted on May 25, 2015

The temperature on the refrigerator side of my Samsung model RF263BE continues to blink. I have unplugged the unit for 10 minutes in order to reset the unit but within a 24 hour period the blinking temperature returns. Also attempted the self diagnostics but no error message is returned. At this time the temperature appears to be stable but am concerned that the thermostat or other part(s) is about to fail. Any additional tests, cleaning, etc. that I can try before having to be serviced by a technician? The unit is less than two years old. Thank You in advance for any assistance or recommendations.

  61. Shawn Posted on July 28, 2015

My samsung rs265tdrs fridge started making loud noises in the fan like there was ice built up on the evaporator. The next morning I came down to a warm fridge. I thawed it all out and took off the back panel to be sure it was free from ice. The fridge started cooling fine, but then later that day was warm again. This time there was no ice built up though and the evaporator was actually warm. I unplugged it for a few minutes, plugged it back in and the same thing happened. I reset it again and now the fridge works, but the freezer wasn’t cooling. It seems if I reset the fridge and put both sides into power cool/freeze mode, the fridge works for awhile and then they stop and warm up again. I originally thought the fridge heater assembly was blown, but now I am not sure at all. What could it be?

  62. Cleon Posted on July 31, 2015

I have a Samsung RF4287HARS which stopped making ice two weeks ago. It has error code 39E. Does anyone know what this code means and/or possible repairs? Thank you!

I have a Samsung Refrigerater RB215ABPN model that has a vertical line blinking on the freezer side of the display. I researched and found that its the freezer sensor error. I replaced the freezer and refrigerator sensors but still have the error. I can hear a clicking sound in the back of the fridge while its plugged in. I had a repair tech come in and checked the start relay which is good and the compressor also seems to be good. He suggested replacing Main Control Board and I did but I still have the same blinking light coming on. I don’t know what else to check and I feel like I’m running out of answers. Any suggestions?

my refrigerator(model: samsung SRS615DP) work properly for few hours but after that it’s motor stop working and degree of frezeer go up to + 5, it’s degree on display start to blink but motor didn;t start. But after power reset it’s ok again for few hours.

  67. Jay Posted on March 20, 2021

Hello, I have model RFG297AAWP. After plugging the unit back in after 10 minutes, I received the error code of ‘freezer sensor’. But after pressing the ‘energy’ and ‘lighting’ buttons simultaneously, the unit went to OF OF. I then hit the ‘energy’ and ‘power freeze’ button to switch the unit back on. The unit came on normally. I then pressed the ‘energy’ and ‘lighting’ button again to check to see if I would get the same error code, which I did not. But did get -88 88. What is this the code for? I can’t seem to find this code. Thanks.

(All of my trouble with this refrigerator happened when I replaced the water inlet valve with a new one. Then the ice maker stopped producing ice. This is when I went on my searching to find the problem. I have replaced the ice maker but still have no ice. I have had nothing to suggest low temp in either the refrigerator or freezer).
