How to Fix the OE Error Code on an LG Kenmore Washer

If your LG washer is showing an OE error code, it’s indicating a drainage problem. The official definition of the OE error is “the washing machine is unable to drain the water used during the wash cycle”. In the guide, we will show you what to check and how to get your washer fixed quickly.

Step 1: Check the Drain Hose

Although it’s not common to fail, the first place to start is with the drain hose. Over time, the drain hose can get kinked or clogged which will prevent the water from draining out.

  • Inspect the Hose: Look for any bends or kinks that could be blocking the flow of water.
  • Clear Any Blockages: Disconnect the hose from both the washer and drain, and then check for clogs by running water through the hose to ensure it is flowing freely.

Step 2: Clean the Pump Filter

A clogged pump filter can also be a common cause of the OE error code. The filter traps lint, small items, and other debris to prevent them from reaching the drain pump motor. If not cleaned regularly, this filter will get clogged over time.

  • Locate the Filter: The pump filter is usually found behind a small access door on the lower front panel of the washer.
  • Prepare for Water: Place a shallow container and some towels beneath the filter to catch any water that may spill out. Alternately, use a wet vacuum to suck up the water.
  • Clean the Filter: Twist the filter cap to remove it and clear out any debris that is caught in the filter. Regularly cleaning this filter can prevent the OE error from recurring.

Step 3: Inspect the Drain Pump

If the hose and filter are clear, the issue could be with the drain pump itself. If you are hearing strange noises during the drain cycle, the drain pump motor may be blocked or failing. You will need to access the drain pump motor, and inspect the impeller on the motor for any damage and anything that is obstructing the impeller from turning freely. If there is any damage to the pump motor, it should be replaced.

To help you with this step, we’ve created a step-by-step video guide on how to access and replace the drain pump motor on an LG washer.
