In this video, we'll show you how to replace the temperature sensor part # WR55X10025 (PD00000992) in your GE french door refrigerator. If you've noticed that your fridge isn't cooling properly, or the temperature inside seems off, the temperature sensor could be the culprit. So if you've been having trouble with excess frost or ice buildup in your freezer, replacing the temperature sensor could help with that too.

Temp for refrigerator not correct
Tools

Repair & Advice
Remove the evaporator fan assembly by removing the 3 Phillips screws. Unplug the fan motor and set this aside. Loosen the 2 screws that hold the evaporator in place. Lift the evaporator off the screws and pull it away from the wall carefully so you do no not damage the tubing it is attached to. On the back of the coil is a bracket that fits into the evaporator. This will pull out of the evaporator where the sensor is slid into. Remove the old sensor by carefully pulling it out of the bracket. You may have to cut a tie wrap that the bracket is held onto the evaporator. Install the new sensor and push the bracket back into the evaporator. You do not have to put another tie wrap on it if you are careful enough to reattach the evaporator without the bracket falling off. The wall of the refrigerator will hold it in place. At this point reinstall in reverse order.

Repair & Advice
Very easy job, once you figure out where the temp sensors are and how many there are. Had to look at parts diagrams to figure out the location and I only saw one, but when I started disassembling the fridge I found there are 2 sensors so I'm glad I bought two. Once you get to them, its an easy snip and splice to install new sensors. I've learned the main sensor is usually near the central fan and defrost radiator (central in the back), and if you have a separate section of the fridge with separately controllable temp (e.g. meat or deli drawer) you'll have one there too. And, one in the freezer. I skipped the one in the freezer for this job. It's been a couple of weeks and all is well. Thanks, Parts Dr!
