Problem
Surge took out control board
Tools
Screwdriver
Repair & Advice
The part comes with the housing attached so the repair consisted of removing five screws on back of each control board to switch out to the new control board. The existing control board housing did not come off of the dryer.

Problem
This was for a Maytag dryer that just stopped starting. The appliance repair man wanted $800 to repair the dryer (ridiculous - you could buy a new dryer for that). Parts Dr. had the best price for this part (some other sellers were $100 higher).
Tools
You will need screwdrivers and that's about it.
Repair & Advice
In the dryer there is a technical instruction sheet that is inside the dryer (as in a loose piece of newsprint - go figure). It will take you through the testing protocols and you will get an error code on the dryer display to help diagnose the problem. That sheet also has some basic instructions about taking the control panel apart and accessing the control board. You can also find an exploded drawing on the internet which helps. You take out some screws and get the control panel open from the back and go from there. When you install this replacement part, you will have a black plastic side to the part and a white plastic side to the part. The white plastic side that faces out (away from the dryer body) and the circuit board will come out of the dryer and you have to disassemble the replacement part to get the white plastic side and the circuit board apart from the black plastic part which you will NOT install into the dryer. The original black plastic piece is pinned to the dryer body and will not come out. I was not really happy about installing a loose circuit board and the white plastic backing into the dryer but it worked, no issues at all. It's basically a "plug and play" part once you know what you need to install.
