Problem
Soap and rinse agent doors wouldn't stay shut - LG Dishwasher
Tools
Screwdriver, (socket wrench with metric socket optional)
Repair & Advice
This was done on a LG LDS5040ST dishwasher. Due to abuse by some bad tenants, the dispenser doors for the soap and rinse agent wouldn't shut (they were repeatedly ripped open instead of pressing the buttons like normal people). After viewing a YouTube video, this looked liked an easy fix, however, there was one small problem.
The video made it look like all one had to do was unscrew 6 screws on the inside of the door, and that the front face of the dishwasher would then easily remove. This was not the case with this model.
On this model, I discovered that there were also screws on the bottom of the door (I'd suggest removing those first.) One needs a very short Phillips screwdriver to get to these screws, but I used a small ¼" socket wrench with a small metric sized socket (I can't remember the exact size of the socket I used).
After that it was relatively easy, I disconnected the 2 wire harnesses.
Unlike the video, the dispenser unit didn't pop out until I removed 6 more small screws and a metal bracket holding the dispenser assembly to the door.
After that, I popped out the old unit, replaced it with the new one, screwed it back together with the 6 screws and small bracket, replaced the dishwasher front, and screwed back in the 6 door screws PLUS the 2 screws on the bottom of the door, and then I tested it. Everything went fine; this is 100% an easy fix. It could take 15 minutes or less of you know in advance about the screws on the bottom of the door.
