The dish rack height adjusters located on either side of the upper basket have plastic clips which become brittle and break off. Plastic pieces from a broken clip do not always clear the system and become lodged in the pump.

No tools are necessary to replace the height adjusters. If the broken plastic from a damaged clip does not clear the pump, then a screw driver, pliers and socket drive are required to remove the pump and broken plastic within.

Our Samsung dishwasher has been a very good appliance except for the plastic adjustment clips located on the upper basket. These have broken 3 times over the last 10 years we’ve owned the appliance. The replacement of the adjusters is easy and requires no specialty tools, however, price of the replacement parts has been more than one would expect for such a simple item. No damage has occurred to the water pump from the resulting pieces of plastic when a clip breaks off. However, the removal of the plastic from the water pump requires the dishwasher to be removed, and turned on it’s side to access the water pump located on the bottom of the unit. The cover of the water pump then can be opened with a screw driver and the plastic removed. This additional work is not required if the pieces of broken plastic are small enough to clear the water pump and flush out of the system. Given the frequency required for repair, I consider this a design flaw and would inspect the type of basket adjustment for any new dishwasher before purchasing.
