Repair & Advice
Gently tapped up from the bottom of the old shelf, alternating that action at both ends of the shelf with palm-side heal of my right hand. It seemed stuck and was very stubborn to break loose without actually shattering the old shelf.
It's NOT a straight up and slide out. Look at the right end of the fridge door and the angle that the shelf is molded into. There is diagonal slide to the whole mold of shelf to door attachment.
It takes both a smack up AND OUT MOTION at the same time that is difficult to do without any clearance for your hand to do the "out" motion while tapping up against the door and shelf at the same time.
There is a diagonal slant to the way the shelf slides up and down and slides in and out on an angle. It has to come up and out on a slant at the same time. Tap one end up then the other, back and forth gently. Once one side or the other finally pops/"cracks-snaps" loose up and out towards you and becomes loose from the fridge door slide notches, it takes a mild twist/torque and lifting with both hands, one on each end providing an opposite twist motion from the other end to wiggle the shelf up and out of the door side notches somewhat evenly.
You have to get the old shelf to flex from corner to corner and slide it up in order to get the remaining engaged side to un-stick and pop out of the slide notch. It should then disengage completely from the fridge door once it clears the diagonal slide up path in the door.
Hammered in over time. Shiny hard slick plastic. Friction galore. Definitely stubborn on the way out.
After many, many years of dropping bottles and jars into/onto the shelf, it's been tapped in pretty tight by the constant hammerings of dropping things back in on the shelf. It more than likely will not just come straight up and out evenly. Whichever end has been less hammered in by all those bottles and jars will be the first side to come loose as you hit back and forth with the palm of your hand. Then you twist and torque the other end out and rock it up the slide notch.
The new shelf goes in with the same twisting torquing motion as you push the shelf into the door slides and slide it down on an angle back towards the fridge door.
