Problem
The washer showed the F28 error code and refused to operate. A diagnostic test revealed that the MCU was defective. The board subsequently showed burns at two areas. The part delivered was the exact replacement art that I needed.
Tools
Screwdriver, wire cutter, socket driver.
Repair & Advice
I employed a technician to do the job although I had educated myself about the processes to remove and install the MCU via many UTube videos. I didn’t feel confident enough to do the job myself but I rendered assistance to the technician to his surprise.

Problem
F 25 Fault on 5000 series Maytag Washer, more than 20 years old, but in great condition. It needed a new motor control unit.
Tools
Screwdriver w/small hexagonal bit to take off the front panel.
Regular Screwdriver to pop up the unit, and plyers to pull out the plastic wire ties.
Repair & Advice
Although the part is plug and play, it is important to reach in with a cellphone to capture a couple of photos of how the wires are connected and where. The little door on the part is where the wires plugin, is hidden when installed, so you have to pull that open to expose the wired plugs. The wires are modules, so no stripping of wires or screws are necessary. After you do it, it is obvious. So, in another 20 years, you will know what to do. Ha, ha. Small hands would also be helpful in the tight spaces.
